Petreza Tower

Overview
In the mid-1990s, George Belmpas, inspirer and creator of the Petreza Tower, decided to make a traditional wine press, where the wine production would be done by manual means. After many trips to famous wine regions of Europe as well as Greek wineries, he started a large investment in the vineyards and winery of Petreza Tower.
In 2001 the organic cultivation of the vineyards was certified by the organization DIO. In 2003, a radical replanting was realised at the vineyards in Mesogeia, where Greek white and red grape varieties were planted. Today, in the Belmpa family vineyards the varieties cultivated are mainly Malagouzia, Savvatiano and Mandilaria, in vineyards located in Spata (Santa Claus, Bourbon, Zagana, Lakeza, Petreza and Skimthi) Pikermi (Katripi, Polychroni) and Rafina (Skoufeika). The total area of the family vineyards today reaches 62 hectares.
The small but beautiful winery is permanently protected by the thick, solid, stone walls, which ensure in a natural way the ideal conditions for the making, maturation and aging of the wines produced in the cellar. The initial target for traditional, manual wine making has been denatured into faith to mild vinification methods, resulting in wines that express the vineyards and good raw materials from which they derive, but by investing in modern equipment.
